Covid the Cobra's First Birthday!

Tell us your story of being involved with this amazing community artwork!

On 18 May 2020, during the first national lockdown, the Parnell family started laying hand-painted stones in a line outside their front door, inviting others to do the same…

Within a few months, ‘Covid the Cobra’ had grown to 10,000+ stones, snaking all the way along Grace Way and round the corner onto Martins Way! This extraordinary, uplifting artwork was deeply loved and collectively made by the whole Stevenage community! A HUGE cheer to everyone involved – you ROCK!!

Junction 7 Creatives is excited to be part of plans to bring back everyone’s favourite snake-of-stones to Stevenage in a new and lasting form... We are currently talking to various talented artists and many people who were involved in bringing Covid the Cobra to life in its original form. Watch this space for news as lockdown eases…

Meanwhile, 18 May 2021 is Covid the Cobra’s first anniversary, thanks to the Parnells laying their stones outside that day…

To celebrate, we want to hear your stories of being involved with Covid the Cobra. What do you remember about creating your own stone, or visiting the Cobra as a whole? Does your stone have a story to tell?

To tell us your story, please leave us a voice message below - or send us an email. We will add any messages we receive to the Covid the Cobra archive, which we will draw on in future projects… We will get back to you if we wish to share any of your words more widely.

Please also share photos and memories of your stones and the Cobra on social media, using the hashtag #Cobra1stBday

Thank you for being part of Covid the Cobra – here’s to many more stones and stories to come…
